Job Description

The Systems Support Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to both internal and external customers using Fugro supported LiDAR and MBES systems. Remote support via e-mail/telephone along with on-site field support and direct customer relations are expected. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to implementation of electronics, mechanics and electro-optical design improvements, advanced trouble shooting, and regular depot maintenance of the equipment. The required skill sets should encompass but are not limited to: systems trouble shooting; electronics build and debug; optical assembly and alignment; software operating system configuration in both Windows; and local network troubleshooting, configuration and administration. The Systems Support Engineer is inherently one of the interfaces between Fugro and customers and is therefore expected to exemplify professionalism and be courteous. As a secondary responsibility, the position is also periodically responsible for operating LiDAR systems and conducting LiDAR surveys in accordance with project requirements and company procedures. As such, the Systems Support Engineer is responsible for the installation, calibration and operation of the RAMMS in suitable aircraft of opportunity. Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of Fugro RAMMS sensors and any on-site troubleshooting and system support.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and betterment of Fugro LIDAR and MBES sensor, including the management of vendors.
  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for the LiDAR and MBES system and ensure that said preventative maintenance program is executed. Carry out scheduled maintenance in Fugro's facilities and carry out or oversee field-based preventative maintenance.
  • Assist Fugro field personnel in troubleshooting and resolving problems associated with the LIDAR and MBES system. Such support will start via e-mail and telephone, but if and as required, could involve immediate deployment to the field to troubleshoot and resolve the problem there.
  • Develop and maintain a system (database) for tracking the history of problems and resolutions for the LiDAR and MBES system.
  • With Fugro's field personnel and suppliers as required to diagnose faults in the RAMMS system and MBES and affect repairs as quickly as possible, so as to minimize down-time.
  • Configure and operate LIDAR and MBES sensor, including POS/AV and GPS equipment.
  • Ensure "Power-Timing Tests" are obtained and calculated in accordance with Fugro procedures.
  • When in the aircraft, ensure that the pilots are fully informed on all aspects of current operations.
  • When in the aircraft, work with the pilots to ensure that the correct survey lines are used during acquisition.
  • Ensure that quality and safety procedures/work instructions are followed at all times.
  • Configure and operate GPS receivers and software for static surveys in establishing or extending control, real-time kinematic surveys in collecting ground truth and post-processed kinematic surveys in support of airborne surveys.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate acquisition and processing logs when in the lab.
  • Report any problems or concerns related to LiDAR and MBES system performance and expected future performance to Supervisor immediately.
  • Report any problems with regards to safety and/or data quality to Fugro's Lead Hydrographer - LiDAR, the Project Manager, or the Charge Surveyor immediately.

Job Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
  • Must have a driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel
  • Posses a Bachelor's degree in Science or diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Survey Engineering or related field.
  • Have 3-5 years' experience with LiDAR systems.
  • Must have experience in troubleshooting and repairing airborne LiDAR systems.
  • Must have experience in designing repairs and improvements to complex, electronic systems.
  • MS Word, Excel, and Access; Internet software, E-mail; Windows operating systems; Geographic conversion software; AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Basic knowledge of hydrographic data processing and analysis tools (e.g. CARIS, Fledermaus)
  • Basic knowledge of GPS processing software, such as PosPAC
  • Basic knowledge of computer components and LAN network
